war

We saw a post on Bluesky this morning about the forthcoming Carrboro Cardboard War, and were intrigued by the description: “The Carrboro cardboard war is an event in which participants build suits of cardboard and fight!!”

cardboard wars

We’ve reached out to the founders of the first annual war for an interview – stay tuned – but leave you with the Chapelboro calendar description about the event which will be held on December 13th from 1:00 – 2:30 at the Carrboro Farmers Market:

The Carrboro cardboard war is an community get together. In which people go all out on building weapons of WAR!! out of cardboard you can be as creative as you wish.

There will be two teams. team RED of redonea  VS team BLUE of blueingtonn. they are fighting to see who will be the last standing!

Cardboard building rules

  • these suits of cardboard are meant to be destroyed so don’t make something you don’t want damaged
  • cardboard weapons like spears and swords MUST BE DULED!! we will be checking. No covering your weapons in tape to make them studier.
  • allowed building materials. Tape (any), Glue, Paint (no one wants to see a sea of tan), Clothing ( wear something that you can move in), Masks (store bought or otherwise)

weapon regulations

Layered weapons can be between 4-5 centimeters thick and must not exceed those measurements.

When you get here

you will get your weapons checked, once your weapons are checked you will get assigned to a team where you will be given that teams color duck tape. Then we will all gather for a pre-game statement / briefing. Then it’s on to the BATTLE!!

How to battle

Your team and the enemy will stand on apposing sides of the field and when start is called the war is on. The purpose in battle is to destroy your opponents’ upper body / torso armor. If a bit of your upper body armor still remains intact, then you are still in the game. You attack your opponents with your cardboard weapon, but, if you drop your weapon then you are allowed to pick something up from the ground to use, or you can battle with your hands. When all of your upper armor is ripped off then you leave the battle field and you are out of the game. The battle continues until one team is left standing with their armor intact. <– (this bit is from boxwars in Australia i did not make the battle rules)

how to be

  • be nice, lite joking trash talk is allowed but try not to hurt someone’s feelings
  • only hit parts of the body covered with cardboard, no going for the nether regions on purpose, No hitting the head or face even if they are waring a helmet.
  • if someone falls during an engagement let them get up.
  • don’t steal weapons (obviously)
  • be safe and have a good time
