We have received several messages from our readers asking us if we were going to do endorsements for the current primary. There are competitive seats for the Board of County Commissioners, Register of Deeds and Sheriff. We did post a short piece here listing who is on the ballot, but yeah. We didn’t put together anything. We noted that the Indy will no longer do endorsements here. This is not to say we won’t do it again, but this cycle was challenging for us. Here is a couple of reasons:
- It is a lot of work. To do endorsements correctly, you have to send out questionnaires, review them, potentially interview candidates and then meet to fairly make some selections. We simply didn’t have time to do that. Some of our core writers have been working on other pursuits.
- In my case (John Rees) I am the chair of the Orange-Chatham Sierra Club. We did endorsements. All I can say is it is a LOT of work. Also, while I was engaged in that, I could not work on endorsements for other groups, nor could I share anything the Sierra Club receives from candidates anywhere else. That process is confidential. So while I was managing the endorsement process for the Sierra Club, I was out of pocket.
That is not to say we can’t share some information.

Our friends at The Carrborean, who I collaborated with, interviewed 7 candidates for offices of specific importance to Carrboro (which is the Carrborean’s focus). We hope this is the first of many collaborations with the paper.

The Chapel Hill Carrboro City Schools PTA Council has also done some very concise questions directed at County Commisoners from the perspective of schools

Another media outlet, with a focus beyond Carrboro, Chapelboro, also has provided a lot of information on races and candidates, you can read it all here.
So, look here for early voter locations, dates and details and get out there and vote! I was voter number 44 on the first day at the Drakeford.
