The first annual Triangle Blog Blog not really an election forum forum

We are trying a different spin on a campaign event. We do appreciate the traditional forums being hosted by other groups, like the one being hosted by the Orange County Affordable Housing Coalition and Next – as well as the DWOC Carborro, Chapel Hill, and Hillsborough Municipal Candidates “Speed Dating” Meet & Greet. We are doing one that is part candidate introduction, part social.

  • When: Saturday, October 4th at 6PM
  • Where: Steel String Brewery – 106 S Greensboro Street, Carrboro

We are planning a fun, and informal campaign event. It will look a lot like the Democrats speed dating event, but with some minor differences. Our hope is the unconventional format will bring in some people who do not normally attend candidate events.

We understand there is a football game more or less around the time this is happening. However, since we’ll be in Carrboro, we believe we should be in good shape. There is a shiny new parking deck right across the street in the Orange County Drakeford building

We will be at Steel String Tap room in Carrboro, however, we have invited candidates for both Chapel Hill and Carrboro offices. We will introduce each candidate, and give them 2 minutes, no more 🙂 to introduce themselves to the people in attendance. There may be a gong.

We will have a table in the back (photo below) where candidates will have a space to put any literature, stickers, magnets, and have a campaign volunteers working.

We will intentionally keep the sound down in the taproom so people can actually hold conversations. The idea is after the brief intros of each candidate, they will all mingle in the taproom so people can meet them and learn more about the candidate. If you want to learn more from their printed material, or snag a campaign sign for your front yard. Many will have some in the back space we have set aside.
