Allison Riggs won a tight reelection for Associate Justice of the State Supreme Court. The Margin was close: 734 votes. These votes have now survived TWO recounts and extra scrutiny.
Now her opponent, Jefferson Griffin wants to eliminate somewhere in the neighborhood of 60 thousand votes in an effort to take the victory away. (This ProPublica piece details his voter suppression efforts in great detail.)
The problem is: the list of voters contain people we know. We first became aware of this when BikeLaw attorney Ann Groninger discovered her husband was present on the list.
We took a quick glance at Orange County, and see at least one person we know who appears to be present on the list. I looked for myself and immediate members of my family, and do not see anyone I personally know, but maybe YOU are on the list or know someone. The list is is public record, and you can examine it here.
Update 1/9 – easier way to search:
Apex Town Council member Terry Mahaffy has created a simple search engine to make it easier to look up names, you can see it here.
Share the list and have your friends all check it and see who else appears. If you find people you know, please write us. [email protected]
Update 1/6: Since we published the piece, over two dozen people have contacted us to say that they appear on the list. We are directing them to ProgressNC’s website with more details on what to do.
