Update: Chapelboro has confirmed the news. The match will take place on July 19 in Kenan Stadium as part of the 2023 FC Series. Tickets will go on sale on Thursday, April 27. Kickoff time has not yet been announced.

My entire knowledge of soccer is fueled by Ted Lasso and bandwagoning around the World Cup every four years, but my fellow Triangle Blog Bloggers are very excited about the reports that Wrexham AFC, the Welsh Soccer club owned by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney is set to play the English Premier League team Chelsea FC right here in Chapel Hill, North Carolina on July 19 at Kenan Stadium. The news has been reported by The Telegraph and FOX Sports, so it appears to be legitimate!

This is, apparently, a very big deal.

Naturally, we will be putting our own spin on this upcoming match, including a look at the parking around each stadium, and various comparables between Chapel Hill and Wrexham and Fulham, West London – which I just Googled to learn that Chelsea FC plays there.

As we learn more, we’ll let you know — and you can always come to your local civics blog for your Premiere League / town council coverage.
