We’ve learned that UNC’s new e-bikeshare program is set to launch on Earth Day (April 22). Called Tar Heel Bikes, the program will start with a fleet of 100 bicycles provided by a company called Spin. The bikes can be used by students, employees and visitors to campus.

According to the Tar Heel Bikes website, which is now live, there will be two tiers of pricing:

  • Pay-As-You-Go Pricing: $1.00 to unlock plus $0.29 per minute.
  • Monthly Pass Pricing: $6.99 flat monthly rate with the unlock fee waived.

A previous bikeshare program, also called Tar Heel Bikes, ended in May 2022.

In the last municipal election cycle, we helped increase turnout by over 20 percent. We're all volunteers who care deeply about Chapel Hill and Carrboro, and we're working to make Chapel Hill and Carrboro more vibrant, accessible, fun, and sustainable.  Please consider a small donation to help us keep our digital lights on, host events, and hire students to do data deep-dives.
