The 116th NAACP National Convention is taking place this year in Charlotte. Six members of the Chapel Hill NAACP Youth council leadership team need your help to attend. This is a perfect year for them to do so as it is in our own state. They have been fortunate in receiving support from the community, but they are still short some funds to fully underwrite their trip. Now more than ever, we need to grow our leadership in an era where they will be greatly needed. We are hoping that, together, we all can help make that happen.
How can I help?
You can visit this page to learn more about the Youth Council file and make a donation. funds to help them make the trip and attend. Any additional funds will go towards youth college scholarships. Nothing does a better job of conveying how this opportunity will impact the youth more than hearing from them first hand. I decided to share the testimonials from the youth themselves below. Please consider donating

“I attended my first NAACP National Convention in 2024. Going in, I didn’t know what to expect. However, by the end of Convention, I was feeling energized to organize and ready to work. The topics I learned about ranged from education, to gun violence, to politics. All around, I was able to hear about how I can create change and leave an impact on the world. And that’s exactly why I would like to return this year. With Convention being in North Carolina this summer, I am eager to learn specific ways that I can be a change-maker in my home state. I’ll also have the chance to build connections and network. My Convention attendance will not just be an opportunity for me, but for everyone in my community. My takeaways from the sessions will be applied to my NAACP Youth Council, School, and greater community. So, your investment will be getting me to Convention, and your return will be a better Chapel Hill!”

“Hi my name is Kennedy Lytle and I am the newly elected Treasurer for the Chapel Hill-Carrboro NAACP Youth Council. I am excited and looking forward to attending the national convention this year! As Treasurer one of my duties is to develop fundraising ideas. During convention I will meet Youth Council chapters from everywhere, and I know I will receive so much knowledge on fundraising, and other duties I will be responsible for as treasurer. I am also looking forward to gaining knowledge on how to make our council bigger and stronger. We will grow closer as a council and gain valuable knowledge at this convention. I am most excited for the speakers giving us tools that we as a community should be using in these challenging times. It is my hope that the speakers and workshops will help us to become more prepared in this fight for civil rights and equity. Please help me fund my trip
for the NAACP National Conference, so I can come back home more Knowledgeable , powerful, and experienced to make Carrboro and Chapel Hill a better more equitable place.”

“My name is Kaleb, and I have been elected to serve as the Vice-President of the CHC NAACP Youth Council. I would like to attend the national convention to learn and grow as a leader. I am looking forward to meeting youth from across the state and nation. I am really excited about meeting people and learning about their civic engagement and how it might inform our local work.”
“I want to attend the NAACP Convention because this is a new opportunity for me to be able to not only grow as a person, but grow as a leader, and have the chance to make a change on peoples lives. One thing I am looking forward to for this convention is meeting all the people just like me around the country and seeing how the foundation was laid so the future can lead the way for the next generation. “
