donate-porch

PORCH is in the middle of their summer fundraiser. We wrote about it here.

However, we have learned that this summer has been especially difficult. Also, with Chantal, PORCH has had extra work to serve the communites that were affected by the flooding. We just read their monthly letter for PORCH families who are part of the monthly Neighborhood Coordinator collection process (we are participating):

Summer is always a difficult time for PORCH–as people’s schedules change with vacations, camps, and other summertime activities we have always received less donations and less volunteer participation during this season. We expected this summer to be rough, but with even lower-than-usual donations and the immense amount of resources we have expended helping families affected by Chantal (including an emergency food distribution where we gave out 13,000lbs of food), we are in trouble.

Last month’s Neighborhood Coordinator collection was about 1,000lbs less than our average and we need desperately for August to look different. I have shortened this month’s reminder email so that I can be very clear in my message: I have a shopping list for you and your neighbors.

If ever there was a month to bring more neighbors into the fold or ask neighbors to increase the amount of food they donate, this is the one. Here is what we need to be able to serve families in August:

  • Dry beans
  • Pasta (in boxes, not spaghetti)
  • Pasta sauce (preferably in plastic containers)
  • Cereal
  • Mayo, ketchup, and salad dressing
  • Canned corn
  • Applesauce cups (the standard 6-pack type)
  • Nutella

Not in town? Are all of your neighbors on vacation? We urge you and your neighbors to use our online donation link or to write a check to PORCH Chapel Hill-Carrboro in the amount you would have given in food.

There are many ways to help PORCH. The easiest is to get plugged in to the monthly Neighborhood Coordinator collection process. You receive an email in advance, and you just put your monthly contribution on your front porch and a volunteer in your neighborhood picks it up. Easy!
