In the November 2024 election, Allison Riggs narrowly beat Jefferson Griffin in a race for a seat on the NC Supreme Court. Two recounts confirmed her victory.
Rather than accepting defeat and conceding, as any true gentleman would do, Griffin threw the legal equivalent of a temper tantrum and started trying to throw out any votes he could.

He filed 308 protests in all North Carolina counties. He went after some low-hanging fruit – convicted felons and dead people – but the bulk of the votes he wants tossed out are legally registered voters who voted early in November 2024 (and showed a valid ID to vote, as required by state law), but whose voter file does not list a validated driver’s license number or the last 4 of a social security number.
Griffin suggest the lack of such information renders these voters are ineligible and their votes should be tossed out. (It’s part of a strategy that relies on a theory that even election deniers have deemed extreme, as ProPublica reported last month.) Many of these voters have been registered for years and have voted in multiple elections without issue. And they proved their identity when they voted. But that’s not good enough for Griffin.
There are 60,273 on his list of voters he wants disqualified and their votes nullified.
The State Board of Elections disagreed and denied Griffin’s petitions to toss out these votes. Undeterred, Griffin sued the Board of Elections, a case that has been winding its way through the courts and leaving Rigg’s victory in limbo. Later this month, the NC Supreme Court, with a Republican majority, will consider his case.
When Griffin protested the votes of 60,273, he was supposed to notify them. He did not adequately do so, as the NC State Board of Elections found (The NC GOP sent what looks like junk mail to affected voters, which Griffin claims met his obligation to notify voters, despite the lack of clear information and putting the burden on voters to figure out what was happening).

As a result, many affected voters likely have no idea that they are part of a lawsuit making its way to the NC Supreme Court.
We created TheGriffinList.com to help voters find out if their vote is at risk of being tossed out
The website provides a searchable database of the 60,273 voters whose ballots are being challenged in Griffin’s lawsuit. The tool allows voters to:
- Search by name and county to check if they’re affected
- Access contact information for their county Board of Elections
- Learn how to verify and update their voter registration information
We need your help spreading the word. Please share a link to the TheGriffinList.com with friends, families, and colleagues across the state.
As you can see below, this is an issue affecting voters in every county in the state.
