Early voting is underway in Orange County for municipal elections in Chapel Hill, Carrboro, Hillsborough and the school board race. Early voting will take place through November 4 at five sites. You can go to any site during early voting. (Early voting information from Orange County.) You can also register to vote at an early voting site during early voting. A photo ID is required to vote: this can include a driver’s license, UNC OneCard, passport, or another photo ID accepted by the North Carolina Board of Elections.

Yesterday (October 26) was the first day early voting sites opened in Chapel Hill and Carrboro. (The site in Hillsborough, Orange Works at Hillsborough Commons, opened on October 19.)

We looked at demographic data for the 1,142 voters who have voted so far. This includes both mail-in absentee ballots received and in-person early voters. Data is publicly available and obtained through the North Carolina Board of Elections. Thank you to Gerry Cohen for assisting with this post.

10/28

We looked at demographic data for the 2,483 voters who have voted through 10/28. This includes both 108 mail-in absentee ballots received and 2,375 in-person early voters. There had been 19 same day registrations Thursday-Friday. Many Carrboro voters have Chapel Hill mailing addresses, and Chapel Hill numbers include school district voters not in city limits. 69 Chapel Hill voters in Durham County have voted – 65 in Precinct 27 and 4 in Precinct 53-2. (That means one of the 37 Durham City voters in Orange County has already voted!) Data is publicly available and obtained through the North Carolina Board of Elections. In the last municipal election cycle, we helped increase turnout by over 20 percent. We're all volunteers who care deeply about Chapel Hill and Carrboro, and we're working to make Chapel Hill and Carrboro more vibrant, accessible, fun, and sustainable.  Please consider a small donation to help us keep our digital lights on, host events, and hire students to do data deep-dives.
